Well, You Gotta Have Friends

If you want to go out and have a good time, sometimes you just gotta be with your girlfriends.
This was little wisdom that I picked up from work, which wasn’t surprising. As much as I like being in the company of my guy friends (btw, not only can I call them dude, but I’ve recently decided to start calling them babe– I’m that comfortable around them. :o) sometimes it’s just good medicine to be around other women. It was strange now that we’ve graduated from college, but in a very positive way. We’re all taking steps towards finding our passions and what career would be best for us.
Bryant park was surprisingly breezy and there were plenty of chairs in the shade. Since I got there early, I took advantage of the open space and took photos. The woman a few chairs away had the most amazing camera lens ever. Had I known this any sooner, I may have been rather self-conscious about my dinky, no fuss, no frills point and shoot of a Sony Cybershot. Someday, I’ll have a dSLR, but not right now.
We wandered for food, ultimately heading towards Grand Central Station and finding a nice deli just a few blocks away. The weather lately has been hot and humid– perfect skirt-wearing weather– so Irene and I had weak appetites.
The two of us got fruit salads. It’s comforting to know that I’m eating a good variety of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to hopefully counteract all the sun exposure that I’m getting. Fruit is also hydrating and just plain refreshing in this kind of weather. Arguably, the price was a bit steep, but the fruit was fresh and possibly lightly macerated with a sugar-syrup solution.
Diana and Melanie got something more substantial.
Melanie decided it was time for brunch. Well, of course! It is after all the weekend and a nice afternoon. The highlight of her order– I think– is a generous helping of yummy bacon.
Diana decided to get a quesadilla, filled with spinach, mushrooms and cheese with a side of salsa and sour cream. She ignored the sour cream, which is just as good, since it’s mostly fat and not very high in nutrients. I miss making quesadillas and getting the occasional, signature burn mark on my forearm (because I’m too lazy to use any utensil in flipping over the grilled, cheesy mess.)
After eating, we spent a little time walking things off by going over to Grand Central Station. There happened to be a street fair right on Lexington, so we strolled for a bit before Melanie became a corporate slave for the rest of the day.
Fish Friends.
I Am Not A Goldfish.
Dad’s latest pet is a catfish! It’s actually really cute and reminds me of cartoon characters. The eyes are really big and the whiskers are quite beautiful.
I’m quite fond of this new creature in an otherwise, very vacant fish tank. Apparently Dad wanted a catfish for some time when I first saw one many years ago for about $40. When we went to Mystic Aquarium, he also saw this giant catfish, alone in his own space. So today, he was lucky to find this little guy at a great price. Hopefully the catfish will enjoy the new environment and do well in it.
