Bees, Tea and Celebrities
July 11th, 2008 | by Loretta |Today is the day of many firsts. And thankfully, I had my camera on me!
Law and Order.
I finally spotted celebrities in Manhattan. Angela has been spotting them since we were freshman since her dorm was on Fifth Avenue. I had an earlier lunch hour than usual and there were camera crews outside my building. This happens pretty often in Lower Manhattan, but for once I actually saw and recognized the actors.
There’s Kathyrn Erbe on the left hand side.
Here’s a “action” shot of Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathyrn Erbe.
A few more photos can be found in my Flickr set.
How I Ended with Oolong Tea When I Meant to Buy Green Tea.
Rather than get coffee or a bottled tea that has sugar, I wandered into Chinatown and found many teas with no sugar added. Asian cultures usually don’t add sugar to their teas, so this was a great place to find what I was looking for. I was going to buy a bottle of Japanese green tea, but after looking at the other beverages that they had available, I found that this Oolong tea by Suntory comes with a little prize.
(Yes, as seen in the background, I saved the Fuze bottle from…May and use it to old “important” post-it notes.)
Apparently the magnets come in six designs, each one has a little hook in a very clever spot, such as the elephant trunk, rabbit ear or dog tail.
The tea itself was very tasty. It has a slightly caramel flavor, but more subtle than in roasted sencha (hojicha) so for me it felt more refreshing. I didn’t finish the whole bottle; half the bottle was enough to get the desired caffeine kick that I needed to be wide awake, do my work and leave energy for reading more about Decartes.
The Farmer’s Market.
Every Friday, near City Hall, there is a farmer’s market. This is the first time that I’ve walked by it all summer; normally I go a different route. There was a honey stand where the man was very friendly, handing out samples generously to any passerbys and stopping or calling after people who walked by to come over and try some of their honey.
They had honey bears and honey comb.
But of particular interest, they had honey comb with bees on display.
I asked if I could take photos and he insisted that I do.
Hooray!
