Another Middle C Concert
February 24th, 2007 | by Loretta |For the Mid-Winter Concert, the catering for the Middle C event was done by Chez Mom, yet again. This time, she took things in similar direction, but with different items on the buffet-style menu.
She started with siu mai; these are pork dumplings steamed in wonton wrappes. As Arthur said, these were the largest siu mai he has ever seen. Big enough to be a baby’s fist. Yep. Mom’s all about macro food.

Then, there was Melanie’s favorite: bacon rolls. These little bundles are a tasty shrimp concoction wrapped with a slice of bacon and then put into a griddle for cooking. A higher-calorie version can be found in dim sum places. There, they are prepared by battering up the rolls and then deep frying; these are then served with a mayonnaise-based sauce.

Chicken seems to be a common denominator on our menus. Chicken wings with a BBQ-based sauce was made; these were prepared by baking. :O

And of course, what meal is complete without some serving of veggies? Here, we had stir-fried Chinese vegetables: napa cabbage, bok choy; we also had some more usual fare like carrots and bean sprouts.

And to create a carb-y foundation in our stomachs, there was fried rice, prepared with minimal grease and enhanced with: shrimp, peas, carrots, corn kernels and egg crepes, shredded.

As an alternative for those who do not like rice very much, we had noodles.
This was also prepared with as little oil as possible (I’m not a fan of greasy Chinese food, and I don’t think most people are.) Shredded carrots and cabbage were added for diversity in texture and of course, color.
