My Oxen Did Not Die on Oregon Chai…

November 3rd, 2006 | by Loretta |

The reference, of course, to Oregon Trail. (I can’t begin to tell you how many times I had typhoid, low food supplies and risked drowning by not caulking my raft when fording the river…) If you’re still wondering if I really do have oxen in the city…no. None at all.

So I’m walking to school and all of a sudden, there’s something warm and wet on my thigh. No Ian, I did not wet myself because I was heading to an exam.

Actually, I did wet myself, but because I was trotting my way with a small cup of…Oregon Chai…! And a small splash decided to fly out of the cup and hug my jeans.

But yes, the people who were promoting Oregon Chai today at Union Square are the superstars of this post.

Hi, would you mind if I took a picture of you…and your gear?

How could I resist? Imagine someone with a backpack that looks like a jetpack. Except, this is a ginormous thermos with a hose and nozzle attached to it to dispense things into the small sample cups. And where are these cups? On the other side of the magic thermos pack!

Oregon Chai

He even posed for it too. :D :) :o ::happiness:: But yes, that man and his two colleagues were rocking thermos packed filled with Oregon Chai tea. I mentioned this blog and how I’d like to post a little something on them, and they were very happy to hear it.

I think this deserves a closeup action shot.

Chai

Don’t you just love the color choices?

One of the women asked if I’d like to sign up and try to win a free box of Chai.
Yes, I did. Even though it may mean a lot of spam later. Oh, and she gave me a spicy vanilla candle for signing up.

Oregon Chai comes in 9 flavors. That’s about all I remember. I’m easily excitable and they were exciting me. Oh, and also, because Oregon Chai has a website, so I wasn’t too concerned about remember all the details. It comes in boxes of concentrated chai, and all you have to do is add warm milk to it.

Though, I guess you can have it iced.

Anyway, I would actually consider shelling out a few bucks to get Oregon Chai. I don’t know which one I sampled, but the flavor was very smoothed out, despite the complexity of the spices used. It’s got the cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves…whatever it is they use, plus vanilla, milk and water to a very good balance. It’s a sweet, soothing taste, the kind you would expect from a creamy concoction, but rather than be dense and heavy, this is actually really light.

Oh. And it’s sugar free!
