When Potlucks Inspire…
October 22nd, 2006 | by Loretta |Mom decided to embark on a mini culinary experiment and I’m her number one guinea pig, though this may be more by default than by choice. What can I do when I’m the only mouth she has to feed since Dad is out during meetings and my brother’s upstate?
Mom had an epiphany or revelation– I can never tell which is which unless I’m the one who had it– and decided to make a lot of foods for this weekend. Most noteably is her new method of making stir-fried rice noodles. The flavor is more intense than usual, though this may be due to light tossing with sesame oil. I heart sesame oil, but I don’t know if sesame oil is good for my heart. Not all plant-based oils are heart healthy. But I guess if you think about how long a way you can go with just a very minute drizzle of sesame oil, it’s not so bad at all.

- Presoaked rice noodles
- Shredded carrots
- Shredded napa
- Sliced mushrooms
- Bean sprouts
- Sesame oil <3
Sesame oil has been MIA from my kitchen counter since maybe 6 months or even longer. Usually, when I’m pureeing chickpeas to make a bean spread, I drizzle some of that in instead of tahini, which would result in a more authentic creation of hummus.
