Looney for Luna Bars

Thanks to free samples of whole Luna Sunrise Bars (oh and a Stonyfield smoothie…bless Union Square and early Wednesday mornings,) I am not a great big fan of Luna Bars. Well, the sunrise ones anyway.

Luna Sunrise in Strawberry and Cream

While I’m usually extremely skeptical about granola bars and power bars, these were actually okay. For 180 calories, I got a lot of nutrient dense goodness. And yes, that is a layer of frosting you see on my granola bar. An anomaly? Yes.

The Strawberry one tasted a lot like having Pocky, except a lot healthier. I can’t vouch for the absorbancy of the added nutrients (nothing beats eating your vitamins and minerals from complete foods, like veggies and fruit) I can say that this is definitely better than a muffin, scone or other baked good that I would consider getting for snacks or brunch.

It’s also high in fiber, carbs and relatively low in sugar (less sweet than your Chewy, Nature’s Valley and Kudos bars for instance.) Definitely, this actually has found its way on my list of things that are okay to have once in a while.

Of course a minor setback is these babies cost over a dollar each, which is a lot more than your usual fare of pre-packaged granola bars. But I see it this way: it’s a better option for a snack than most things I could be eating and also, the quality of ingredients are worth the extra cost.

So I think I’ll buy myself a case some day. Yes, they’re that good. Or maybe I’m just that addicted.
