Down Memory Lane: Tick Tock Diner, Not Just for Tourists
June 29th, 2006 | by Loretta |Ok, well maybe it is. But considering how welcoming the waitstaff is, the variety in its menu and the fair-pricing, the Tick Tock Diner in Midtown Manhattan was a pleasant exeperience this Thanksgiving Break (November 26, 2005.) Dannyson, Eugene, Dorcas and myself went for breakfast together and it was a very satisfying experience.
The New York way of diner is often at least twice a normal serving– even the water glasses were large tumblers that must have held at least 24 ounces of liquid. After ordering two sonoma omelettes, one salmon omelette and one blueberry roll-up, our wonderful waitress returned with a bowl of jellies, butter and syrup. When our platters were ready, she brought them with a dish of toasted bread for all to share.
I had the Sonoma, and so did Dorcas. We thought it was amusing that out of maybe 20 different kinds of eggs, we ended up picking the same exact thing.

The Sonoma and other omelettes came with home fries or hashbrowns. I had home fries, because I’m a home fries sort of girl. It also comes with toast, but so did everything else we ordered. It’s an omelette with probably 3 eggs, a generous portion of mozzarella cheese, portobello mushrooms and sun-dried tomatos. It made me nostalgic for Tuscany, though Sonoma is in California (right?)

Danny ordered the salmon omelette, which was also a generous portion of protein.

Eugene had blueberry roll-ups, a dish I considered, but opted out when I decided I was in the mood for protein and not carbs that morning. Highly unusual? Quite.

Overall, it was a fun dining experience even though we’re all native New Yorkers. Yes, i admit, this place is rathe touristy, since it’s right next to the Hotel New Yorker, but I ask, why let the tourists have all the fun?
