Un-Supersizeable!
May 27th, 2006 | by Loretta |Despite the fact that Supersize Me! is my current favorite documentary-slash-movie, I must confess that I have had McDonald’s within the last 3 years on more than one occasion.
Driving up to Cornell entails awaking at an hour that my stomach can’t even recall it’s actual purpose in my body. While my brain will tell me to down at least a waffle or something else with carbohydrates, breakfast on early-morning Cornell trips have proven to be mediocre. And by the time we get to the edge of upstate New York, what was once consumed has become digested, just in time for us to make a rest stop
In my most recent trip to slopey Ithaca, we stopped at the same McDonald’s we usually do. Mom has not yet had breakfast and she insisted I get something to nosh on. Initially, I ordered the yogurt parfait from the dollar menu, completely aware of the fact that it has twice or twice-and-a-half more calories than my standard cup of supermarket yogurt, it was an unsuccessful request, because the frozen berries were not ready.
So I decided to take the plunge and try the cinnamon bun.

Yes. I had that in the morning. To be honest, I never would have ordered it, if it was the very first thing my stomach was going to digest in the morning.
While it does not have five beautiful layers like Cinnabon makes them (though I’ve never had Cinnabon
) it does have a very rich, fresh and bold cinnamon sugar filling. The icing was rather over the top, but that’s part of the fun of eating unhealthy just for one morning out of many healthy ones that I’ve had and continue to have.
I must mention it was warm and fresh– thus very interesting texture, worth resizing for the full ooh-and-ahh effect.

Knowing that my brother would probably adore this much more than me, I saved him at least half of it. I’m not sure if I ate another quarter, but I probably did. It was sticky and the actually bread part was not too sweet. What can I say? I indulged.
I never eat like this in the morning and let’s face it– it’s not always easy to eat healthy when on the road with limited choices. It’s understandable that when the options are fast food chains for all meals, nutrition needs may not or maybe never met. But hey. If we eat well most of the time and sincerely eat fattening, sugary foods sparingly, then it still all in good health.
One cinnamon bun did not ruin me, so I never regretted the experience. But really, I think once is enough for this experience and I plan on keeping it that way.
It was a good day to bring the camera.
